　　Over-population, which has been a frequently debated topic, is considered to result in many problems in the world. However, I would not agree that excessive population is responsible for most of the worldwide problems.

　　It is acknowledged that the overgrowth of population presents a threat to the environment. Deforestation and land clearing, as major solutions to feed a larger population, result in the increase of global temperature and the decrease of soil productivity. More population means more consumption of fuels, releasing a large amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Urban life is also threatened as an increasing number of people compete for limited resources. House crowding, traffic congestion and unemployment are not uncommon for people living in cities.

　　However, it is not fair to blame over-population for most of the problems. War, causing tremendous losses and untold suffering, is driven by a series of factors such as politics, religion and economics. Another example is poverty, which has been a concern attached with much importance. In fact, some underdeveloped countries such as Nepal and North Korea are not over-populated. On the contrary, shortage of young and middle-aged labor makes the countries uncompetitive in terms of human resources, restraining economic growth as a result. Crime is also not directly related to over-population but factors various from person to person, such as lack of communication, pursuit of money and revenge mentality.

　　In conclusion, over-population is undoubtfully associated with some problems such as deterioration of the natural environment and low quality of life, but there are other factors that should not be neglected when worldwide problems are discussed.
